The Head of the Church

The relationship between Christ and the church is so varied and rich that it defies adequate description. For Christ to be the “head of the church,” in an organic way, means that the church has no life apart from Christ and receives all of its life from Christ—they are one. As one cannot live without constant oxygen intake, the church cannot exist for one moment without Christ as her life. It means that those who serve the church only serve her as Christ empowers and enables them to do so.
