Little Kids: Yep, Teaching Consent Starts Before School

Welcome to This Glorious Mess Little Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is - confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises! Teaching our kids about consent doesn't start in the classroom. In fact, Australian Charity, Act For Kids believes that we should be teaching our kids about consent and their bodies from the age of 0 - 4. Consent at this age is not about sex, but about our kids learning to understand how to say no, knowing what is uncomfortable and when to say yes. It's very complicated and tricky to teach in practice. So on today's episode, Tegan and Leigh are joined by Natalie Haman, Occupational Therapist with a specialisation in sexuality. Plus, this week's parenting dilemma, no hat no play? LINKS You can find out more about consent and child safety from NAPCAN, The National Association for Prevention of Child abuse and Neglect online at www.napcan.org.au If you after today's discussion you need to reach out to anyone you can find a list of resources on www.raisingchildren.net.au RECOMMENDATIONS This week Leigh recommends Fake Gro-Clock from ALDI and Tegan recommends an oil cleanser for cradle cap, like Fancy Face by Go-To CREDITS Host: Leigh Campbell & Tegan Natoli Guest: Natalie Hamam, Occupational Therapist Producer: Mikayla Floriano CONTACT US Share your listener dilemmas with us!
