#14 - Quitting My Job and Setting Sails: Embracing the Murky Waters of Uncertainty with a Smile and a Healthy Dose of Fear
The Unreasonable Art of Living - A podcast by Gerhard Molin
In a world filled with highs, lows, and unexpected turns, one of my guest’s whimsical thoughts was the idea of me opening a plant-based drug store. But as life would have it, the universe had other plans for me. As I delved deeper into my lumii scores over the past months, a pattern emerged, revealing a truth I had been hesitant to face. My feelings towards my current job felt unauthentic, and it was time for a change. The decision to hand in my resignation wasn't made on a whim. It was the culmination of introspection and a desire to fully immerse myself in my true passions: lumii, this podcast, and an upcoming high-flow coaching program. The introductory call for the coaching program was a revelation. Initially skeptical, as the conversation unfolded, I saw its profound connection with lumii’s mission. The program's aim to help people become aware of their time, regain focus, and balance their well-being resonated deeply with me. Everything just clicked.Returning to work after a holiday, the atmosphere felt different, almost alien. The lack of familiar greetings and the subtle shift in my own language when talking about my job were clear signs. My heart had moved on, even if my mind was still catching up. With a renewed sense of purpose, I decided to invest my energy and time fully into lumii, the podcast, and the coaching program. The journey ahead promises to be both challenging and exhilarating.Fear and anxiety, however, are never far behind when venturing into the unknown. But I've come to see fear not as an adversary but as a guide. It sharpens focus, heightens senses, and serves as a reminder of the fine line between reality and fantasy. Making the decision to quit wasn't driven by fear but by a genuine excitement for the process and journey ahead. In a recent conversation, a friend shared, "In situations of uncertainty where we have the agency to decide to challenge ourselves, where this situation calls for confidence in performance, the anxiety & nervousness can be a sign that deep down we know how good we are and will continue to be." I responded, "Yes, and deep down this anxiety and fear is about being afraid to see what happens when we live to our fullest potential. What the universe has in store for us, because this could mean leaving things and people behind that you hold dear. It means change, perhaps sacrifices, but all on the basis of love and authenticity with life."Life, in all its complexity, is a mix of emotions - excitement, fear, joy, sadness. Embracing all these feelings is what makes us truly alive. If life is akin to music, then this podcast is my attempt to capture its rhythm and melody. As I dance to its tune, I invite you to join me, hoping to inspire you to find and embrace your own life's song.Resources: * Why Your Life Is Not A Journey By Alan Watts* How To Handle Fear?
