A statement made by the successful perfectionist Drake, a statement that is fully embodied by J. Versez feeling he has much to prove to his peers, family, and ultimately to himself. Born to Michelle Williams a young 20-year-old mother in college and Kevin Hampton just an 18-year-old senior in high school. Justin was Louisiana born and Texas raised in the city of Houston. Justin Williams "J. Versez" is a smooth sounding artist that brings meaningful lyrics combined with his commercial appeal to bring a new vibe to the Rap/R&B genre. Influenced by great artists such as Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Pharrell. J. Versez is very versatile with his vocal abilities to compliment the tones of his beats. But, this artist wasn't always in the pursuit of music Justin grew up with a huge interest in playing sports. His mother and father both are former basketball players and come from a family of athletes. It seemed it was an inevitability his first love was basketball playing from the age of 5 years old up until his final year of high school. Although Justin was primarily an athlete he was no stranger to the art of music but, a different kind of music altogether. In his mother's efforts to make sure her only son was a well rounded black young man. Justin was introduced to the classical band, his instrument of choice was the trombone. But, his love of basketball was greater than his interest in classical music. After his freshman year of high school, Justin decided to put all his efforts into the sport he loved and put any musical aspirations to the side. But it all seemed to be in vain in the end. With the lack of growth in height in a sport that caters to the giants of the world. Justin found himself in his senior year benched with no scholarship offers insight to further his career in basketball. After graduating in the class of 2012, it was clear that his time as a pro basketball hopeful has come to an end. He found himself lost and without purpose moving back to his hometown of Baton Rouge Louisiana.Little did he know this was the start of a new chapter and a new journey in the pursuit of music. Being back home and close to his father again, Justin decided it was time to live with his father to strengthen their relationship. Spending most of his freshman year of college living with his dad who was a rapper/producer since Justin was just a baby. He found himself back into old habits which are being his dad's number one fan and supporter of his music career. Mainly always being supported from behind the scenes. Justin was very familiar with being a cameraman, video editor, managing social media accounts. These roles were just fine for him in the past because he was always a shy kid and never wanted to be in the spotlight. But, Justin's attitude has changed since graduating high school. Being 18 years old and becoming an adult and being fed up with being in his shell constantly fading in the background. In an effort to want to break out of his shy habits, one day Justin decided to tell the one thing that his dad thought he would never hear from his son. Justin told him "I am down to help again with your music, but pops I want to get behind the mic this time". After the moment of disbelief had passed his dad Kevin asked Justin "are you sure"? Justin replied with confidence and his dad gave him a look of approval and turned to his computer. "Here take this beat with you and write a verse to it, come back and let's see what you got," Kevin said. After two days had passed Justin came back to his dad with his verse. Rapped for his dad for the first time and was impressed with his writing ability. Kevin thought that he would have ghostwritten for his son. Was blown away at his natural ability. Hosted on Acast.
