Bonus Ep47: Tahrmageddon- Joseph Peter; Hard Yards Hunting

The Stag Roar: Life Less Ordinary - A podcast by Ryan O'Connor

For the hunting community of New Zealand, the last fortnight has been of great concern as the Minister for the Environment, the Honorary Eugenie Sage, has proposed the cull of 25,000-30,000 Tahr, with the aim to eliminate them from the West Coast and Mount Cook National Parks. Whilst her plan is based on very shaky and old science (population is estimated to be between 17,000-54,0000 with 95% confidence interval), a cull of these numbers, in particular one that indiscriminately targets Bulls is not a desirable outcome for general hunters and those in the hunting industry. I had the pleasure to sit down with Hard Yards Hunting’s Joseph Peter to get a bit more insight on what it has meant for the industry and recreational hunters alike.
