Candice's hospital birth to Mildred and the importance of informed consent
The Positive Births NZ podcast - A podcast by Helen Bartrom

Categories:
Midwife Candice shares the birth of her first baby Mildred. Please note: this story does differ from all other episodes on the podcast in the fact that Candice didn’t do any type of hypnobirthing work with me. Candice had listened to all the podcast episodes in her pregnancy and reached out to me when baby Mildred was born to ask to share her story. She said she’d had a positive birth, and I believe she shares with you some valuable information here. While she knew a little bit about some hypnobirthing "stuff", that’s not what we’re discussing in this episode. You’ll hear Candice talk about her experience and knowledge as a midwife and how that impacted on her birth experience. Most importantly is her message about asking questions, making informed consent and the ability to say No if you want to. While she didn’t get her ideal birth; she did get what was truly important to her and what it was that made it positive. In this episode she talks about making the decision to move from home to hospital, using gas, epidural, baby being in a posterior position and support to get baby out with a kiwi cup.
