Today, we’re going to jump into talking about how you can appreciate your body—this one body you’ve been given. I know this is a topic that starts to make all of us feel pretty uncomfortable, but y’all, it’s that important. Lisa Bevere is joining me today to unpack what it looks like to really like and appreciate the body you’ve been given.   Stop Being Mean to This Friend We all have this negative voice in our heads that tell us we’re not enough . . . not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not young enough, and the list goes on. And we always think, “If I looked like that, I wouldn’t have these thoughts.” But it doesn’t matter what you look like, because no one is exempt from it. The way you talk to yourself affects your sense of confidence and joy. It affects who you are and what you do in this life more than you can possibly imagine. It affects the example you set for your children, friends and even your coworkers. So, it’s time to change the narrative. It’s time to start appreciating this one body God gave you to live in. Scripture says your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Your body was created by God, and I guarantee you that He doesn’t make mistakes. I believe that He loves your body. He even likes it. And He probably wants you to love it and like it as well. Think about it: Would you ever treat your friend how you’re treating yourself? It's time you actually become friends with your body, appreciate it, and celebrate it.   So, if you're going to build confidence in yourself and the God who created you—if you're going to get back to yourself and live this amazing life that God has for you—you have to start appreciating this one body you've been given.   One Thing You Need to Stop Obsessing About with Lisa Bevere I’m so excited to hang out with Lisa Bevere today as we talk about what it looks like to appreciate your body. Lisa is the bestselling author of several books, and she just recently published a new women’s devotional called Strong. Here are a few highlights from our conversation: The myth women believe about their bodies How easily the number on the scale can become an idol Why you should appreciate your body right now How to steward your body and your health . . . without obsessing over them   The Gift You’re Missing Out On… “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” —1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV) You are not your own. You were bought at a price. I love this idea of a different layer of responsibility, not only because it obviously affects how we think about ourselves and our sense of confidence, but it's also a command from God who loves us very much. He knows what's best for us. He knows what we need. He knows what we were created for. So He gives us commands and instructions in His words. And one of the commands is to honor God with your body. Today, I want you to be really honest with yourself as you write down the answers to these questions: How do you normally think about your body? How do you normally talk to it? Would you ever talk to someone you love like that? What do you appreciate about your body? (Make a list and write down every single thing.) What are some practical ways you can honor God with your body?
