At the core of his upbringing and success was family. West is the third generation of military servicemen among four. He received several honors throughout his career, including a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal.After retiring from the military in 2003, West worked as a defense contractor and adviser until he transitioned into politics. In November 2010, he was elected to Congress and represented Florida's 22nd District. Today, he’s the chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.
