Atonement

A key concept in this episode is atonement. God makes it clear that the blood of a person or animal represents their life, which means that to shed someone's blood is to take their life. The concept of atonement is to have someone else's blood shed on your behalf to pay for your sin. All of this atonement is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus when he sheds his blood on the cross for the sins of those who trust in him. He makes final atonement for sin.
