CHRISTIAN LIVING SERIES: His Will, Not Our Own

We are continuing on with our Christian living series and today, we are going to tackle that internal battle of our own will vs. God’s will for our lives. Sometimes those two things line up perfectly! And sometimes they are polar opposites. So, as Christians, what do we do? I think we know the right answer, but it’s one thing to know the right answer and actually choose to walk and trust that right answer. You know what I am talking about. I will bet that a few times in your life you asked for something and everything went so smoothly! It was easy. Straight forward. It was so evident that God’s hands were at work and what you asked for was in perfect alignment with His will! I will also bet that you have asked for something from God and you feel like you never get the answer or He is making you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait for the answer. And you know it isn’t God’s will for your life now, maybe ever, but it’s so hard to walk away from because deep down you really do what it. True Christian living requires us to strive to obey God’s will 100% of the time. Now, I use the word strive because we are not perfect. We will this up. We will “listen to our heart” and pick what we want to do over what God wants us to do. Guys, “listening to your heart” is not biblical. Sorry to burst your bubble. Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” The Message transitions says “The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful.” And then we have good ole Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all of your heart and lean NOT on your own understanding.” We cannot trust our hearts. We cannot rely on our own thoughts, our own understanding, because they are deceitful and typically not in alignment with God’s will on their own. So how do we handle this?------------------------------------Have you been wanting to grow that more intimate relationship with God or spend more time in the word but just don’t know where to start?
