#18 - Baby Loss with Samantha Messias

The Barbra May Show - A podcast by Barbra May

This episode moved me so much. I was joined by Samantha Messias, an artist who has endured a traumatic childhood, who turned to art as a healing mechanism. After graduating from university in 2012, she discovered Hyperrealism and began teaching herself the skills and disciplines needed to produce remarkable art, and has since rendered the world around her in piercing detail. On the show, Samantha shared her incredibly powerful and heartbreaking story of her journey to birth her baby Owen. Baby loss is a devastating thing and one in four women will experience it. By sharing our stories here we raise awareness, and I want you all to know that if this is something that has touched you, you are not alone. If you went through this situation or know somebody who went through this, you are not alone. It was so brave of Samantha to share her story because it’s such an intimate and personal thing. I myself suffered multiple miscarriages, and I didn’t want to share with the world, I didn’t want sympathy. But it’s so important to share when you feel ready, because of the power we can give to each other in our unity among pain and in our shared experiences that reinforce this message that you are not alone. Samantha’s story is told in great detail and I thank her for her patience, bravery, and skill in recollecting such a painful memory and sharing it with me and you on the show.  Losing a baby I sometimes look at it from a nature point of view. Nature has decided differently. It’s sometimes as simple as that and if you look at it through that lens it can often help to lessen the blow.  https://www.barbramay.com/episode18
