Yevamot 6: The Temple Is Not for Practice

Talking Talmud - A podcast by Yardaena Osband & Anne Gordon

What specific mitzvot can override Shabbat? Shouldn't one fear the Beit HaMikdash itself? That would theoretically have impact on what you can/have to do, since there's no fear of Shabbat in that same way. But there is reverence for God that is then later applied to the Temple? Plus, going back to the question of a positive commandment pushing aside the negative one. R. Yosi and R. Nachman then debate the implications of "moshvoteichem." Plus, the complications in the addition of the benefit. Bottom line: Can one, must one put a criminal to death, for a court-imposed sentence?
