See comments for the link to the whole interview.Joseph Campbell was a mythologist who looked at the similarities between the myths of different cultures. And his studies resulted in what has come to be called the monomyth. This is a universal story structure, a template that takes us through the spiritual journey or path that moves through a sequence of stages. It begins with the child who is born into a reality with rules and belief systems. The child must break free of these rules or transcend them to find his or her own path to adulthood.
