Should Mormons SHUN people who leave the Church?

Saints Unscripted - A podcast by Saints Unscripted

When a loved one leaves the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, family members react in a variety of ways. There have been absolutely horrible stories about the ways in which friends and family have reacted to someone leaving the Church, of which we do not condone. Taylor and Sam discuss why Mormons react the way they do and how they can better react to their loved ones leaving the Church.    Sam says that “the church does not have a monopoly on goodness and inspiration.” Certainly not! So many people from so many walks of life have goodness, truth, light, and inspiration. To claim that we are the only ones to possess such traits would be ludicrous. If you hear a member of the Church make such a claim, they aren’t speaking on behalf of the Church but just on behalf of themselves.    If you have left the Church, know that we still love you, God still loves you, and we’re here for you. If you are struggling with a loved one who has left the Church, we understand and pray that there will be love on both ends of the relationship.
