Plato, Republic Book 6 - The Likeness Between The Sun And The Good - Sadler's Lectures

Sadler's Lectures - A podcast by Lectures on classic and contemporary philosophical texts and thinkers by Gregory B. Sadler

Categories:

This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Plato's work, The Republic, in particular book 6. Specifically it examines his discussion in the end of book 6 about the likeness or analogy between the Form of the Good and the Sun, which he calls the "offspring" of the Good. Both the Good and the Sun make it possible for the human being to apprehend matters, in the case of the Sun, for vision to apprehend visible objects, in the case of the Good, for the soul to recognize and know the Forms.
