Nell Gwyn was an English actress, courtesan, and mistress of Charles II of England (aka: ther merry monarch). She was born in 1650 in London, and was one of the first actresses to appear on the English stage. She had a natural charm and beauty that made her popular with the crowds. Though her background was humble, she went on to become one of the most famous women of the day. Nell's rise to fame began in 1665. She became an overnight sensation on the stage and soon began appearing in many other plays. Her wit, charm, and beauty made her a favorite of the King, and she became his mistress in 1668. They had two sons, Charles and James. Nell Gwyn's life was full of adventure and scandal. She was a fiercely independent woman who fought for her rights and didn't let anyone take advantage of her. Her story has been told in a number of plays and films, and she remains an inspiration to many women today. --------------------------------------------------------- Queens podcast is part of Airwave Media podcast network.
