Q&A: Breast Crawl
Pregnancy Podcast - A podcast by Vanessa Merten
Categories:
If your newborn baby is placed on your abdomen after birth they will use their instincts and their senses to make their way up to your breast to initiate breastfeeding on their own. This is pretty incredible to see and it is fascinating to see just how instinctual breastfeeding is in a newborn baby. There are many steps involved in the breast crawl and each one affects you and your baby. There is also quite a bit of research on this topic. The big question is whether it is better to let your baby complete the breast crawl uninterrupted or to assist them in finding and latching on to your breast. Listen to this episode for information on what the breast crawl is, the instincts, senses, and steps involved in the breast crawl, and the evidence behind this behavior.
