There are many reasons people choose to eat a plant-based diet, including environmental, ethical, or health reasons. Regardless of your reasons for eating a plant-based diet, there is no denying that many animal products are rich in vitamins and nutrients. If you avoid meats, seafood, eggs, or dairy, you need to get nutrients from other sources. While it is possible to eat a healthy diet that does not include animal products, you need to be mindful to make sure you are getting the nutrients you and your baby need. The foods you eat should be your primary source for all of the vitamins and nutrients you and your baby need. You should also be taking a prenatal vitamin to fill in any gaps of nutrients that can happen with any diet. This article is an overview of some specific nutrients to pay attention to if you are eating a primarily plant-based diet.   You can read the full article and resources that accompany this episode by clicking here.   For more evidence-based information, visit the Pregnancy Podcast website.
