148: Finding Out Your Baby’s Sex

Your baby’s sex is determined at conception. They will get an X chromosome from the egg and either an X or Y from the sperm. XX is genetically female and XY is genetically male. There was a time when the only way to find out if you were having a boy or a girl was at birth. Today there are lots of options to find out the sex of your baby. These options vary in their safety, the length of time to get results, and how accurate the results are. For most expecting parents finding out whether you are having a boy or girl is a milestone moment.
