Episode 8 - How Reading Can Change the World

Pod of the Gaps - A podcast by Pod of the Gaps

We live in a world in which the reading of books is simultaneously more possible and more threatened than ever before. Books are readily accessible in a variety of formats to billions of people, and yet trends like "Cancel Culture" are subtly reintroducing new forms of "book burning". In this episode, Aaron, Michael, and Andy consider this tension, asking: Why does reading matter? How can we be challenged by what (and how) we read? Are there situations where we should encourage people not to read some authors? And how does technology shape our reading in helpful (or not-so-helpful) ways? We consider these things with the usual mix of theology and cultural engagement, all whilst hearing about such things as Michael's new experiment in homemade pork pies, Andy's newfound love of wood-chopping, and other things that may or may not change the world.
