Episode 14 - Does God Care About Sport?

Pod of the Gaps - A podcast by Pod of the Gaps

Human society has always been gripped by a love of sport. This is never more obvious than at major international tournaments, where the carnival atmosphere of supporting your country seems to grow to epic levels. But what, really, is the point of all that investment of time, money, and emotion into something that ultimately comes to nothing in the end? This seems to become a bigger deal within secular society, which often leans on the "meaning" of sport as a replacement for religion. As Christians, how should we think about these things? Do we tend to enjoy sport "guiltily", or are there better ways to think theologically and missionally about it? How can Christians enjoy sport whilst also critiquing idolatry? And is our love of sport purely idolatrous, or might it be connected to the God who created us? Might we even learn to love God in and through our love of sport? As always, Aaron, Andy, and Michael discuss these important questions with their usual blend of cultural insight, missional zeal, and hopelessly British humour.
