The Spirit of the Law - Kosher to God - Pod for Israel

Pod for Israel - Biblical insights from Israel - A podcast by One for Israel

Are you Kosher? Is Kosher what we eat? Should I mix milk and meat? What about bacon!?! We continue our series on the Spirit of the Law with what God is trying to teach us with the Kosher or Clean/Unclean commandments. Every commandment from God has a meaning, a precept to learn from, a parable teaching deeper things, and foreshadowing our Messiah's work. So what did God intend to teach us through the dietary laws, and what have we made of it today? Just as a disclaimer!! This podcast is NOT about is it ok to eat Bacon or Shrimp!!! Remember Roman's 14 and Colossians 2:16 as you guys comment! ; ) Here are all the references for the podcast: ''you shall not cook a goat in it's mother milk'' (Exodus 23:19, 34:26, Deuteronomy 14:21). The rabbis interpreted this to mean you can not eat or cook any meat together with dairy (b. Talmud, Chulin 115b). Abraham gives his guests meat and milk to eat (Genesis 18:8). The Talmud says Abraham kept Kosher and in fact, kept the Oral Law (b. Talmud, Yoma 28b). So the Midrash says Abraham guests did not actually ate, but were pretending to eat (Midrash 'BeReshit Raba'). The Bible give at least two more examples of Jew eating meat and dairy together (Deuteronomy 32:14 and 2 Sam. 17:29). Bible scholars, Prof. Moshe Kasutto and Chaim Ginsberg, explain that in context, the 3 verses from Torah that speak about cooking a calf in his mother's milk, has nothing to do with eating kosher, but speak specifically about pagan ways of sacrifices.
