In Episode 8 of One Step Deeper, Jimmy and Brittany dig into a topic that came up in a off-air conversation they were having recently. Brittany was recalling all the things that she needed to get done in her day saying things like “I HAVE to do the laundry.” Jimmy responded, “No, you GET to do the laundry!” That one word difference made such a profound impact on Brittany that she wrote a social media post about this that got so much reaction that she and Jimmy knew that they should do an entire podcast episode on it. "You don't have to go to work today, you GET TO. There are lots of people that would love to get to." - Jimmy Moore "I have begun to let go of all of the "have tos" in life." - Brittany Davis READ THE POST How many times a day do we say to ourselves the phrase "I have to?" I have to go to work. I have to cook dinner. I have to exercise. I have to drink water. I have to spend time with family. What if I told you that when you choose to experience a "have to" attitude that you are actually missing out on a huge blessing in your life? When you obsessively focus on and even get lost in all of the things that you think you “have to” do, you can unbeknownst to you miss out on an opportunity for grounding yourself in gratitude for all that you get to enjoy and savor in your life. TRY THIS—instead of saying "I have to" do something, how about shifting that into “I get to” do those things? Do you hear the difference? The former feels like an obligation while the latter is a privilege and an honor. If you can embrace this basic concept in your thinking pattern, then it can radically transform your mind and attitude about nearly everything in your life. I get to go to work. I get to cook dinner. I get to exercise. I get to drink water. I get to spend time with family. Can you see how switching out that one little word from “have” to “get” can really make a truly profound difference in how you view your life? Reminding yourself often that you get to enjoy the privilege of doing these things will ultimately leave your heart full of nothing but gratitude for all the good you never noticed before. And that dread you are perhaps feeling right now will slowly start to fade away. Now that it is 2021, THIS is a change for good that can and will reap huge benefits for you and the people in your life. Try it for yourself and watch how this simple exchange of words will make all the difference in the world. Let us know how this works out for you in your experience.
