Work and Income case manager told client seeking housing support to ‘go rob a bank’

Reports today that a Work and Income case manager shouted at his client to shut up and asked him if he wanted to go back to prison when he sought housing support. Sajay Singh had spent two years in Auckland Prison for drug supply. He says he is ready to turn his life around and sought help from Work and Income to find accommodation better than the boarding house they had provided where he no longer felt safe. Simon Barnett & James Daniels spoke to Kay Brereton Manager of the Beneficiaries and Unwaged Workers Trust about the difficulties beneficiaries face.
