Episode 19 - Real-world advice from an amazing mom who continues to pave the way for Autism families w/ Kelly (AKA Growing Up Steven)

Kelly and her husband have been married for 31 years have 3 children. Their oldest son, Steven was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2 and is now 29. Steven was non-verbal until the age of 4 and also has a diagnosis of Apraxia. Later in life he would also be diagnosed with Tourette's and OCD. Her family's journey has been a long and sometimes difficult one. When he was young, Autism was not well known and they had to navigate thorough it many times without any help at all. Today, as an adult the difficulties of Steven receiving quality services has been extremely challenging. It has opened her eyes to all the work that still needs to be done on behalf of those diagnosed with Autism. Kelly started an Instagram page for 2 specific reasons: 1) To reach out to young parents and give them hope for their child just diagnosed; 2) To bring awareness to the lack of Services for Adults with Autism especially on the severe end of the spectrum and also shed light on the impossible task of being a full time caregiver to your adult child and working.
