Thank you for tuning in for another episode of Life’s Best Medicine. This is a special episode. Just over a month ago, Brian was biking on a beautiful Saturday morning with his good friend, fellow missionary, and mentor, Carlos Merlo. This was a routine Saturday morning activity for Brian and Carlos, but what ultimately transpired was not routine. At some point during the ride, Carlos passed out and was rushed to the hospital. Brian reflects on the lessons he learned from this experience and highlights the value and power of having a faith perspective on life in such situations. Part 1 of this episode ends at 14:40 and resumes immediately afterward with an interview with Carlos which was conducted about a month after the incident described above. In this interview, Brian and Carlos talk about the experience of passing out on the bike ride from Carlos’ perspective, the beauty of living life in a faith community, COVID policies in hospitals, coming face to face with death and consequently realizing the fleeting nature of life, the power of gratitude and having hope in God, the power of prayer, and not taking anything in your life for granted. Life’s Best Medicine According to Carlos: “Don’t forget to say, ‘I love you.’ Don’t forget to say, ‘I’m sorry,’ to give a hug, to bless people. With your mouth, you can bless or curse people. You will get more when you bless people. Bless people every day—especially your kids and your wife, your friends, brother, sister, and your parents if you still have them. God is great!” Thank you for listening. Have a blessed day and stay healthy!
