B”H Do you experience Fomo, Fear of Missing Out? I mean, don’t we all? Well, from cryptocurrency to the career path we chose, the fear of missing out, better known as FoMO, does drive a great deal of our financial decisions – as well as others, of course. Today I have the guest who knows FoMO best. Patrick McGinnis, the first to coin the term FoMO, shares the root causes of this fear, as well as the negative and positive aspects of FoMO. His book is called Fear of Missing Out: Practical Decision-Making in an Overwhelming World.  As you’ll hear on the show, Patrick and I go way back and you’ll hear us reminisce about our Investment Banking Days, no FoMo there, though. Patrick is an international venture capitalist and host of the hit podcast FomoSapiens. He first coined the term FoMO, as well as the related term FoBO (Fear of a Better Option) in a 2004 article in the student newspaper of Harvard Business School. FoMO has since been added to the dictionary and FoBO has become an increasingly popular framework to describe choice paralysis. Patrick is also the author of the international bestseller, The 10% Entrepreneur: Live Your Startup Dream Without Quitting Your Day Job.
