#245: Graham Brown & Jonathan Bowman Perks - Resilience
Inspiring Leadership with Jonathan Bowman-Perks MBE - A podcast by Jonathan Bowman-Perks - Tuesdays
Resilience is an important trait to have when facing severe adversity, as demonstrated by Jonathan and Graham's experiences in endurance competitions, military training, and business ventures. However, pushing oneself to extremes can also have consequences and costs. The question is, are you willing to accept those consequences and pay the price? This conversation delves into the concept of being rejection-proof, learning from difficult experiences, and taking action. As Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until I get punched in the mouth." This is especially true in combat situations, where extreme resilience may be necessary, but can also lead to numbing oneself to emotions and feelings, which can be detrimental to one's well-being in civilian life. Through sharing their favourite books on resilience and discussing various topics such as "chunking down," "touching the void," PTSD, and the "snowflake generation," Jonathan and Graham's stress the importance of combining resilience with agility and the ability to bounce back, in order to achieve true anti-fragility.
