Dr. Horner is the laboratory director and a principle consultant for Air Quality Sciences. He has a Ph.D. in plant pathology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in mycology from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, and a B.A. in botany/comparative literature from the University of North Carolina. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Horner completed an NIH funded fellowship characterizing fungal allergens at Tulane University School of Medicine before joining the research faculty in the Allergy/Clinical Immunology Section, where he established a bioaerosols and indoor mold research program. He served as the chair (2002) of the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Lab Quality Assurance Program, and served on the Analytical Accreditation Board through 2003. He is a member of ASTM International sub-committee D22.08 on sampling and analysis of mold and sub-committee G03.04 on biological deterioration. Dr. Horner has conducted investigations and complaint resolutions in courthouses, commercial buildings, hospitals, residences, schools and defense manufacturing facilities. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Immunology and a LEED AP.
