Heathen Wyrdos Podcast Ep 9 - Feminism In Heathenry: Tradwives & Shieldmaidens

Hello! This week, Wyrdos Jai, Sif, Kenna, and Theo talk about Feminism in Heathenry. We tackle some of the views of the worst groups in heathenry in regards to women in Pre-Christian Scandinavia, including the nonsense that there were no women warriors in the sagas. We also touch on the sexualisation of the Valkyries and how the gods themselves transcend gender. Disclaimer: Trans rights are human rights. Infuriatingly the academic language sticks rigidly to the gender binary, with little consideration to the greater spectrum. For reference, Sif would like people to know that the women she mentions in the sagas are as follows (the captions decidedly did not like these names) Saxo writes about Hetha, Visna and Vebiorg, Alvild and her daughter, Gyrith Lagertha (not mentioned in the podcast, but is an obvious one) Freydis Eiriksdottir Thordis Sursdotir Audr and Thuridr Thorhildr Vadlaekkja Hervor Bjarmarsdottir Olof, Queen of Saxaland in the Saga of Hrolf Kraki And dozens of unnamed women warriors that pop up here and there in the sagas Mythologically speaking, we have the Disir, Fylgjur, Hamingjur, Valkyries and Nornir (Fylgjur and Hamingjur sometimes show themselves in more feminine forms). Skadi. Thorgerdr Holgabrudr and her sister Irpa in Jomsvikings Saga. We also have giantesses as warriors throughout the mythological sagas. - Join the Heathen Wyrdos Discord Server (beware, may contain cheese and bagels)- https://discord.gg/vyXntbzSxN Want to support the Wyrdos? https://ko-fi.com/heathenwyrdos We now have a Redbubble store as well if you're after some Wyrdos merch: https://www.redbubble.com/people/heathenwyrdos/shop Find Heathen Wyrdos Podcast on Youtube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podbay, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and other places where podcasts live.
