Did you know that reducing your stress levels can increase your body’s ability to heal itself and protect itself from disease? Ayman Mukerji-Househam’s journey is a winding road. Her story, which she shared on TedxNYU, begins in an abusive marriage. Her experience with domestic violence led her to a memorable experience with her first mindful breath, a moment that changed her life. Mindfulness slowly began to transform Ayman’s life and her physical health. Her research has led her down a path of discovery revolving around the gut - the link between our mental health and our microbiome and how a large part of our immune system resides in our gut. Her current social work is bringing awareness to domestic violence amongst South Asian women as well as bringing mindfulness techniques into schools and communities in need. It was an honor to have her on the GAH podcast and to hear her story one-on-one.
