The Value of Homeschooling :: Viviana Fusaro-Ramos [EP11]

Gems of Motherhood - A podcast by Sharon Kon

Homeschooling is an opportunity to take ownership of your child’s education while living out your faith. Viviana shares that every parent is a home educator and that homeschooling is simply a vehicle where parents have the freedom to select subjects that they want their children to learn. “God has engineered my circumstances as He has many times to show us the way that we should go. I’d say homeschooling fell on my lap.”Viviana encourages parents to create a plan for the school at home by setting goals and a vision for the year. Education should not be confined to a building. There are so many creative ways to homeschool. Creativity is crucial yet avoiding technology as much as possible especially with younger children is essential. Replacing technology intentionally with art, play and outdoor activities further enhances your child’s learning experience. Viviana shares that reading aloud and focusing on play is essential for younger children while the academic rigors of school should wait until age of 6. She encourages parents to take it one year at a time and be flexible. Although things may change and kids may get sick, always listen to the Holy Spirit and be flexible because at the end of the day it’s the heart that matters. “No discipline seems good at the moment.”What we chat about: Setting goals and visionWhy homeschoolThings to do when starting to homeschoolDifference between homeschool, private school vs public schoolHomeschooling children between the ages of 2-5Practicing routines and habitsOrganizing your day with your children5 Mistakes that parents should learn from Resources and supportConnect with Viviana
