This novel tells the story of Hannah Cheshire, an English convict sentenced to transportation in 1814, neatly interwoven with the Norwegian fairytale East of the Sun West of the Moon. This book won the 2010 IBBY (International board of books for young people) Ena Noël Award.  Content warnings for: discussions of Murder, Torture, Medical abuse, brief mentions of domestic abuse, Colonial history, violent and dehumanising treatment of imprisoned people, Violent and dehumanising treatment of sex workers, Period typical sexism, classism, and racism, and romantic relationships between a 19 year old and a 14 year old.
