Reel Crafted Barrel Pick: Smooth Ambler Old Scout

Film And Whiskey - A podcast by Bob Book and Brad Gee - Tuesdays

Categories:

Recorded live on-site at Western Reserve Distillery, Bob and Brad are joined by their friend Scott Sauer to select a barrel of Smooth Ambler Old Scout for their Reel Crafted Barrel Program. Each of these bourbons is between 4 and 6 years in age, but many of the specs are still secret. This barrel sold out weeks before its bottles hit store shelves--thank you to all the listeners who claimed a bottle! About the barrel: Age: 6 years 116 days Mash Bill: 60% corn, 36% rye, 4% malt Nose: Subtle oak and fresh flowers settle into vanilla sweetness and salted, buttered popcorn. Taste: A buttery mouthfeel with hints of rich cacao, this morphs into a popcorn-flavored jelly bean (or kettle corn, if you prefer). Finish: Classic bourbon vanilla with soft undertones of butterscotch. A quick burst of heat makes itself known without sacrificing the overall sweetness. With added water: Malty, scotch-like notes come forward as well as English toffee and chocolate. Film & Whiskey Podcast. New episodes every Monday.
