Wimahl is “Nch’i-Wàna” (or “Nchi wana”) to Sahaptin (Ichishkíin Sɨ́nwit)-speaking peoples of the river’s middle course in so called Washington. And the river is known as “swah'netk'qhu” by Sinixt people, who live in the river's beginning reaches in Canada. Wimahl is the largest river system in the Pacific Northwest, originating in Canada and flowing 1,253 miles to Moananuiākea, also known as the Pacific Ocean.
