Like the Sigālovada Sutta DN31, Mahānāma Sutta AN 8.25 was delivered by the Buddha for the lay people's training and cultivation. In this Dhamma sharing by Sis Sylvia, she first explained what is meant by going to the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha) for refuge. Then she highlighted the eight qualities that a lay person should cultivate not only for his own welfare but also for others. Finally, she provided a checklist for one to identify whether one is a nominal Buddhist or an exemplary lay follower of the Buddha. Since 2001, Sis Sylvia has been a regular speaker on Buddhist doctrines and their practical applications at local and regional Buddhist organisations.
