A New Way to Look at & Move Through Triggers

Why we get triggered and a whole new way to look at it + work through it When we are born, we experience less than perfect attunement from our parents. At this moment, we make the unconscious choice to side against ourselves and develop a way to cope: a coping tool like shutting down our anger, making our parents laugh, or even becoming their little therapists. These coping mechanisms bring out a specific part of us, neglecting another, opposing part. For example, when I feel unloved, I become a people pleaser. I neglect my wild, untamed powerful, selfish self, I highlight my nice part. And guess what's happening here? Two things: I am shunning out the part of my parents that triggered me into this response. (like if they were a free spirit, I became the over-responsible one, and I shut out the free spirit in me) I get triggered by people who exhibit the part of me that I've shunned (free spirits) We can work through this by regulating our nervous system, and by allowing emotions to arise and processing them: emotions that likely have to do with what I ACTUALLY wanted to express in my childhood towards my parents when they did this thing that caused me to create this coping mechanism/part in response. Mindful self compassion and parts work are another set of tools that are extremely helpful in this process of working through our triggers.  ❥❥❥ Thank you so much for being here!
