National caught in a whoopsie as they pull back for the second time this week, earlier it was about funding for the Ministry of Health and now it's about their promised tax cuts, the tax cut calculator is gone from their website and they appear to be making more cautious comments about what they will end up promising Can you use copyright laws to protect against cultural appropriation? Professor of Maori and Indigenous Studies at Waikato University, Tom Roa, joins us to talk about Gerd Strizel, the German artist who painted Rangi McLean's image, as we try to figure out what is cultural appropriation versus copyright infringement versus freedom of expression versus financial gain based on someone's likeness...versus probably some other ideas as well. Kansas has overwhelmingly rejected the idea of banning abortion in their constitution even though many dirty tricks were played to try to help the anti-choice view get through. This has given the Dems a clear narrative in many purple states and shown that fighting for abortion, and women's' rights, is a winning formula for the upcoming mid term elections James Shaw is the only person standing for for leadership of the Green Party but now still needs to get 75% of the vote or the members can reopen nominations. There seems to two takes here, one is the process opens opportunities for people, the other is it's a shambles that 30% of the membership can stop the process. If Shaw doesn't get the leadership position now, as the only nominee, the process will be shown as a sham as opposed to a case for opportunity
