This event launches a new Institute of Public Affairs project exploring the roads taken by women who shape public life. Joyce Banda was the first female President of Malawi (2012 – 2014) and only the second woman to lead a country in Africa. Purna Sen (@Purna_Sen) is Deputy Director of the Institute of Public Affairs at LSE. Marie-Pierre Lloyd is Seychelles High Commissioner to the UK and a member of the Above the Parapet advisory group. Haleh Afshar OBE is Professor Emeritus at the University of York, serves as a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords and is a member of the Above the Parapet advisory group. Above the Parapet (@LSEParapet) is a research project at the LSE’s Institute of Public Affairs which explores the stories of women in high profile public life.
