Chapter 9 of Devi Mahatmyam describes the killing of the demon, Nishumbha, by Goddess Chandika. The Devi Mahatmyam comprises chapters 81-93 of the Markandeya Purana. It narrates the stories and exploits of Durga in her fight against the demons. Devotees chant these verses during Durga Pooja to invoke the Goddess’ blessings and protection.
