Dakshinamurthy Ashtottara Shatanamavali – For Wisdom and Enlightenment

AstroVed’s Astrology Podcast - A podcast by AstroVed

This Stotram lists the 108 names of Lord Dakshinamurthy, a form of Lord Shiva. His name means ‘one who faces south’. He is often depicted seated on a deer skin or tiger skin, facing south, and surrounded by old sages or Rishis who were his disciples. In this form, Shiva is the cosmic teacher or Adi Guru who bestows enlightenment. By chanting this Stotra, you can invoke his blessings and attain wisdom, knowledge, true enlightenment, and freedom from samsara (birth-death cycle). As he is also the Lord of planet Guru, people who have weak or afflicted Guru can recite this Stotram. One can chant it daily or during Guru Purnima to get the Guru’s blessings.
