Dakshinamurthy Ashtakam – For Knowledge and Enlightenment

Dakshinamurthy Ashtakam is dedicated to Lord Dakshinamurthy, a form of Lord Shiva. It explains the glory of Atman, which one can attain with the Lord’s grace. Dakshinamurthy is the God of enlightenment, and he is depicted in sitting posture, facing south, and surrounded by the sages. This Stotram is unique, as unlike most hymns which talk about granting wealth and material comforts to those who recite it, it talks about how to get knowledge, enlightenment, Siddhis, as well as freedom from worldly attachments. One can chant it daily or during Guru Purnima.
