Sam Clements is curating a fictional film festival. He'll accept almost anything, but the movie must not be longer than 90 minutes. This is the 90 Minutes Or Less Film Fest podcast. In episode 105 Sam is joined by Celine Song, writer and director of Past Lives. Celine has chosen Andrew Bujalski’s Computer Chess (90 minutes) from 2013. The film is set over the course of a weekend tournament for chess software programmers thirty-some years ago. It’s an American independent comedy, filmed on a ‘80s black and white video camera and presented as a documentary. Sam and Celine discuss the origins of Past Lives and Sharon Van Etten’s end credits song, as well as the subject of AI and how Andrew Bujalski’s work on Computer Chess is increasingly more relevant today. Past Lives is in cinemas now, released by Studio Canal in the UK and A24 in the USA. Thank you for downloading. We'll be back in a couple of weeks!
